Community Service
The American Legion Auxiliary Community Service program reflects our enduring commitment to making our communities better places in which to live. Since 1926, Community Service has been a cornerstone of the American Legion Auxiliary’s mission, providing members with opportunities to improve the lives of others through volunteerism, compassion, and meaningful service.
The purpose of the Community Service Committee is to promote the American Legion Auxiliary’s commitment to strengthening our communities by encouraging and supporting local service projects that address the unique needs of the people we serve. In accordance with the American Legion Auxiliary National Standing Rules, Mission Outreach Committee, the program fosters partnerships that create lasting, positive impacts in communities throughout Colorado and across the nation.
Community Service is built on the belief that every act of kindness—no matter how large or small—can make a difference. Members support their local American Legion posts and collaborate with schools, civic organizations, nonprofits, and community partners to meet local needs through a wide variety of service initiatives.
Examples of Community Service projects include:
- Supporting blood drives and blood donation awareness.
- Promoting first aid, CPR, and emergency preparedness training.
- Assisting with child safety and injury prevention programs.
- Collecting and donating supplies for women and families in shelters.
- Organizing food, clothing, and hygiene drives.
- Providing assistance following natural disasters and emergencies.
- Participating in community clean-up and beautification projects.
- Supporting local organizations that serve veterans, military families, seniors, and children.
The American Legion Auxiliary Department of Colorado encourages every member and every unit to identify needs within their own communities and develop projects that provide meaningful service. Whether volunteering individually, partnering with a local American Legion post, or working alongside other community organizations, every project strengthens our neighborhoods and demonstrates the Auxiliary’s dedication to Service Not Self.
Through Community Service, we build stronger communities, foster lasting partnerships, and continue a proud tradition of helping others—one act of service at a time.
