Legislative
The American Legion Auxiliary Legislative program empowers members to become informed, engaged advocates for veterans, military members, their families, and the issues that matter most to them. By supporting the legislative agenda of The American Legion, members help ensure that the voices of those who have served our nation are heard by elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels.
The purpose of the Legislative Committee is to provide information, education, and assistance to American Legion Auxiliary members so they can effectively advocate for the legislative priorities of The American Legion. As outlined in the National Standing Rules under Mission Outreach, the committee encourages members to stay informed on current legislative issues and actively participate in the democratic process.
Legislative advocacy is one of the most meaningful ways members can make a lasting impact. By educating themselves on issues affecting veterans, active-duty military personnel, their families, and survivors, members become effective ambassadors for the American Legion Auxiliary and champions for those who have sacrificed for our nation.
The Legislative Committee encourages members to:
- Stay informed about the legislative priorities of The American Legion.
- Build relationships with local, state, and federal elected officials.
- Participate in grassroots advocacy by writing letters, making phone calls, attending legislative events, and meeting with lawmakers.
- Share accurate, nonpartisan information about legislation that impacts veterans, military families, and patriotic programs.
- Encourage civic engagement and educate others about the importance of advocacy.
Advocacy is not about politics—it is about ensuring that the needs of veterans, military members, and their families remain a priority. Every letter written, every conversation held, and every voice raised in support of The American Legion’s legislative agenda helps influence decisions that improve lives and strengthen our nation.
The American Legion Auxiliary Department of Colorado encourages every member to become an advocate. Whether you are contacting a legislator, participating in a legislative event, or simply staying informed, your efforts help advance policies that support those who have worn our nation’s uniform.
Together, our voices are stronger. Through informed advocacy and active participation, we honor the service and sacrifice of our veterans while helping shape a better future for military families and generations to come.
