National Security
The American Legion Auxiliary National Security program is dedicated to strengthening our nation’s security by supporting the men and women who serve in our Armed Forces, their families, and our communities. National security begins at home through informed, engaged citizens who demonstrate patriotism, support our military, and honor the sacrifices made to protect our freedoms.
The Department of Colorado encourages members to show appreciation for our service members in meaningful and practical ways. During deployments, military families often face unique challenges, and Auxiliary members step forward to provide assistance through acts of kindness and service. Whether helping with childcare, mowing a lawn, preparing meals, running errands, or simply offering a listening ear to a military spouse, these gestures remind families they are not alone.
Members also honor our military by:
- Hosting deployment send-off and welcome-home celebrations.
- Presenting service members with pocket flags as a symbol of appreciation and patriotism.
- Recognizing military families with Blue Star and Gold Star Banners, honoring both those currently serving and the families who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
- Partnering with organizations that support the military, including local USO affiliates, ROTC and JROTC programs, military installations, and community organizations.
- Supporting community events that recognize military service and promote patriotism.
One of the most visible ways Americans demonstrate support for our deployed service members is by participating in R.E.D. Friday—Remember Everyone Deployed. By wearing red each Friday, members show solidarity with those serving around the world and remind others to keep our military and their families in their thoughts and prayers.
Another meaningful expression of patriotism is proudly displaying the United States Flag. Flying the American Flag at your home, business, or community events is a powerful reminder of the freedoms we enjoy because of the dedication and sacrifice of our nation’s military. Displaying the flag with proper respect reflects our commitment to honoring those who defend it.
The American Legion Auxiliary Department of Colorado believes that every act of support—no matter how small—strengthens our military families, builds stronger communities, and demonstrates our gratitude for those who serve. Together, we honor our defenders, support their loved ones, and reaffirm our commitment to preserving the freedoms they protect.
Remember Everyone Deployed. Honor Every Family. Fly the Flag with Pride.
