Leadership

Strong leaders build strong organizations. The American Legion Auxiliary Leadership Committee is dedicated to developing confident, knowledgeable, and effective leaders who are prepared to serve at every level of the organization. Through education, mentorship, and leadership development opportunities, the committee helps members gain the skills and experience needed to successfully lead their units, districts, departments, and the organization into the future.

The purpose of the Leadership Committee is to better equip members to serve in leadership positions with confidence, integrity, and purpose. As outlined in the National Standing Rules under Member/Organizational Support, the committee encourages members to grow both personally and professionally while strengthening the American Legion Auxiliary.

The Leadership Committee focuses on:

  • Raising awareness of leadership development opportunities available through the American Legion Auxiliary.
  • Promoting participation in the ALA Academy, which provides members with valuable leadership training and practical skills.
  • Enhancing members’ knowledge of the American Legion Auxiliary’s history, mission, programs, organizational structure, and governing documents.
  • Encouraging mentorship and the development of future leaders.
  • Providing resources and training that empower members to serve effectively in elected, appointed, and committee leadership roles.

Leadership is more than holding an office—it is about inspiring others, building relationships, solving challenges, and leading by example. Every member has the potential to be a leader, regardless of experience or title. Whether you are volunteering on a committee, serving as a unit officer, mentoring a new member, or representing the American Legion Auxiliary in your community, your leadership makes a difference.

The Department of Colorado encourages members of all experience levels to take advantage of leadership training opportunities, participate in the ALA Academy, and continue learning about the rich history and mission of our organization. By investing in leadership today, we ensure the American Legion Auxiliary remains a vibrant, effective, and mission-focused organization for generations to come.

Together, we cultivate leaders who are prepared to honor our traditions, embrace new opportunities, and continue our commitment to Service Not Self.
