Public Relations

Effective public relations is essential to the success and growth of every American Legion Auxiliary unit. It is how we tell our story, celebrate our accomplishments, educate our communities, and inspire others to become involved in our mission. Every service project, volunteer hour, scholarship awarded, and veteran assisted deserves to be shared.

The Public Relations Committee helps promote a positive and consistent image of the American Legion Auxiliary while increasing public awareness of our mission to support veterans, military members, their families, and our communities. By communicating our impact, we strengthen relationships, build community support, and encourage membership growth.

Public relations is much more than social media—it encompasses every way we communicate with members and the public. Successful public relations includes:

  • Sharing unit news and accomplishments through local newspapers, radio, television, and community publications.
  • Maintaining an active presence on social media and unit websites.
  • Promoting programs, events, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Recognizing members, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Using the American Legion Auxiliary brand, logos, and messaging consistently.
  • Taking quality photographs that capture the spirit of service.
  • Building relationships with local media and community organizations.

Every member is an ambassador for the American Legion Auxiliary. The way we welcome guests, represent ourselves at community events, communicate with others, and share our mission reflects on the entire organization. Positive interactions and consistent messaging help others understand who we are, what we do, and why our work matters.

Strong public relations also support membership growth. When people see the meaningful work being done by Auxiliary members, they are more likely to join, volunteer, donate, or partner with our organization. Sharing stories of service demonstrates the impact of our programs and encourages others to become part of our mission.

The American Legion Auxiliary Department of Colorado encourages every unit to make public relations a priority. Celebrate your successes, tell your stories, recognize your volunteers, and showcase the difference your members make every day. Even the smallest acts of service can inspire others when they are shared.

Together, we can increase awareness of the American Legion Auxiliary, strengthen our communities, grow our membership, and ensure that the legacy of Service Not Self continues for generations to come.

Tell Your Story. Share Your Impact. Inspire Others to Serve.

Purpose of the Brand Mark

The American Legion Auxiliary brand mark was created to address the need to modernize the American Legion Auxiliary brand to appeal to the next generation. Moreover, the new brand mark takes into consideration a host of applications that the original emblem could never have anticipated. Those include digital and social media, special event and sports marketing, lifestyle apparel and more.

Brand Mark versus Emblem

Going forward, the brand mark is to be used in all marketing communications applications, while the emblem should be reserved for official documents and communications.
