Children and Youth
The American Legion Auxiliary Children & Youth program is dedicated to protecting, caring for, and supporting children and youth, with a special emphasis on the children of veterans, active-duty military, National Guard, and Reserve families. Through meaningful service, advocacy, education, and community partnerships, we strive to provide opportunities that help young people thrive while honoring the sacrifices made by our nation’s military families.
The Department of Colorado is committed to promoting programs that make a positive difference in the lives of children and youth. Members are encouraged to support local schools, youth organizations, military families, and community initiatives through volunteerism, mentoring, educational activities, and family-focused events. By working together, we can help ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed in a safe, supportive, and caring environment.
One of the program’s most rewarding opportunities is recognizing the outstanding character and achievements of young people. Units are encouraged to nominate deserving youth for the Youth Hero Award, which honors extraordinary acts of courage and selflessness, and the Good Deed Award, which recognizes young people who demonstrate exceptional kindness, citizenship, and service to others. These national awards celebrate youth who exemplify the values of leadership, compassion, and responsibility.
The Children & Youth program also proudly supports Kids of Deployed are Heroes 2 (KDH2), an initiative that recognizes the strength and resilience of military children experiencing the separation of a parent due to deployment, temporary duty assignments, or other military obligations. Members are encouraged to honor these children through community recognition, supportive activities, and programs that remind them their sacrifices are valued and appreciated.
In addition, the American Legion Auxiliary Children & Youth program works closely with and supports the Children & Youth Program of The American Legion, reinforcing our shared commitment to improving the lives of children and strengthening military and veteran families throughout our communities.
