Americanism
The Americanism program of the American Legion Auxiliary inspires patriotism, responsible citizenship, and a lifelong respect for our nation’s history, values, and freedoms. Through education, community involvement, and service, the program encourages members to promote love of country while honoring the sacrifices of those who have defended our nation.
The Americanism Committee supports activities that foster patriotism and civic responsibility, including the proper display and respect of the United States Flag, observance of patriotic holidays, promotion of the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem, and education about the U.S. Constitution and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. The committee also encourages support of military families, recognition of those serving in our Armed Forces, and participation in community projects that strengthen pride in America.
The American Legion Auxiliary Department of Colorado is committed to promoting Americanism through meaningful programs that educate, inspire, and engage members of all ages. By working together, we help preserve the principles upon which our nation was founded while ensuring future generations understand the importance of freedom, service, and patriotism.
The Deadline for the Americanism Essay program is due to Department by April 1st and National by April 15th.
Each year the contest is for grade levels 3rd – 12th including students with special needs.
The theme this year is ““What does America the Beautiful mean to me (regarding veterans and our military)?”.
Key Program Statements
- Be knowledgeable on flag history, etiquette, and proper disposal methods, and promote the observation of patriotic holidays so your community will look to the ALA for information.
- Increase participation in the Americanism Essay Contest.
- Participate in the promotion of The American Legion Americanism programs
