The Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation (VA&R) program is at the heart of the American Legion Auxiliary’s mission to serve those who have served our nation. Through compassion, advocacy, and volunteer service, members work to improve the lives of veterans, active-duty military personnel, their families, caregivers, and survivors while honoring the sacrifices they have made for our country.

The purpose of the Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation Committee is to promote programs, events, and services that assist and enhance the lives of veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors, ensuring the highest quality of life possible while preserving the honor and memory of those who have served. As one of the American Legion Auxiliary’s Core National Standing Committees, VA&R reflects our unwavering commitment to Service Not Self.

The Department of Colorado encourages every member and unit to support veterans in meaningful ways, including:

• Volunteering at VA Medical Centers, Community Living Centers, State Veterans Homes, and other veteran care facilities.
• Providing comfort items, personal care products, clothing, books, activity supplies, and holiday gifts for veterans.
• Recognizing and supporting caregivers who provide daily care to our nation’s heroes.
• Assisting homeless and at-risk veterans through community outreach and partnerships.
• Participating in veteran appreciation events, celebrations, and recognition ceremonies.
• Supporting programs that improve the physical, emotional, and social well-being of veterans and their families.
• Honoring the memory of deceased veterans through memorial services and remembrance activities.

The Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation program also encourages members to build relationships with veterans by offering companionship, listening to their stories, and ensuring they know they are valued and appreciated. Small acts of kindness—a visit, a handwritten card, or a simple conversation—can have a lasting impact on a veteran’s well-being.

By partnering with The American Legion, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, community organizations, and local veteran service providers, the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Colorado helps connect veterans and their families with valuable resources and support throughout the state.
